Ganderbal, Jan 28 (KNO): Residents of Ganderbal town in this central Kashmir are complaining that many of the streetlights installed there are lying defunct for the last many months. “Some of the streetlights have stopped working and the Ganderbal Municipal Council has failed to repair or replace them,” a resident told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). He said the streetlights in the town have not been working for several months, yet nobody from the municipality visited the area to replace them. Another resident, “It is very difficult to walk on roads during the evening as most of the roads too are in dilapidated condition, with potholes after every few metres. The streetlights should be repaired at the earliest.” Chairman Ganderbal Municipal Council, Advocate Altaf Lone, acknowledged the problem and said that out of the 800 streetlights in the Ganderbal town, 170 are currently non-functional. He stated the council will depute a team to replace the lights in the market and streets very soon. “We understand the concerns of the residents, and we are working on it. We will make sure that the streetlights are made functional soon,” he said—(KNO)
